They combined multi-leg air routing, dangerous goods compliance and engineered securing to move a 4,605 kg shipment safely and on time

Unitex, a member of The Cooperative Logistics Network in Ningbo, China, has completed the transport of CFM56 aircraft engine cargo from Melbourne, Australia to Chengdu, China. The shipment weighed 4,605 kg and was valued at $9 million.

CFM56 engines are designed for flight at cruising altitude, yet they become highly sensitive once they are on the ground. Vibration, tilt and humidity can all put the equipment at risk. For a shipment of this value, a single handling error could carry a heavy cost, so every stage of the move needed careful engineering and planning. Unitex designed an air routing plan that linked international and domestic legs without gaps, keeping the cargo moving smoothly between flights and ground handling. The team handled dangerous goods compliance and customs clearance as one integrated process, which removed delays at the border and kept the schedule on track.

For the cargo itself, Unitex developed a dedicated securing solution. Additionally, the setup used fourteen high-tensile straps, anti-slip padding and four anchor chains. Ground transport followed CFM56-compliant tie-down requirements and used air-ride suspension vehicles to limit vibration along the route. A Unitex project supervisor was on site from start to finish to oversee each handover.

The result was a safe, compliant and punctual delivery, with zero damage to the cargo. “Moving an engine of this value is a project where precision decides everything,” said Ms Karen Ngo, Trade Director. “Our team planned each leg, each handover and each securing point in advance, so the engine reached Chengdu in the same condition it left Melbourne.”

Ngo added that experience made the difference. “When the stakes are this high, clients look for a partner who has handled complex cargo before. This delivery shows what our team can do, and we are glad to share it with the wider network.”

The Cooperative congratulates the Unitex team on a flawless delivery of a multi-million-dollar project!
